Rovers will face Gary Bowyer’s Dundee in a pre-season friendly next month as part of a Scotland double-header.

They will face the Dens Park side in a friendly on Wednesday, July 13 during a training camp north of the border.

The pre-season friendlies start with a trip to Accrington Stanley on Saturday, July 9, with the trip to Scotland to include games against Dundee and then Celtic on Saturday, July 16.

Rovers have now confirmed five friendlies in the lead-up to the new campaign, all away from home, with further games to come at Hartlepool United (July 20) and Lincoln City (July 23).

The 2022/23 season will then get under way on Saturday, July 30, a week earlier than usual to accommodate the mid-season break due to this winter’s World Cup in Qatar.

Bowyer, who left Salford City after a 10th-placed finish in League One, was quickly back in work when getting the job at Dundee earlier this month following the departure of Mark McGhee. That came after the club were relegated to the second tier.

Billy Barr left his position as Rovers Under-23s manager last summer to link-up with Bowyer, and they will again be working together at Dundee.

The pair will be looking for Dundee to make it an instant return to the top-flight, with the Rovers friendly coming as part of their pre-season programme. The Scottish season will already be under way by then, with a Scottish Cup group game with Hamilton scheduled for July 9.

Bowyer was handed the Rovers job in March 2013 after two caretaker spells in charge, winning 44 of his 127 games in charge before leaving in November 2015.
