Rovers have appointed Jon Dahl Tomasson as their new head coach.

Tomasson has signed a three-year deal at Ewood Park. The 45-year-old set to be officially unveiled at a press conference later this week.

Tomasson arrives alongside assistant coach Remy Reijnierse and fitness director Ben Rosen. David Lowe, Ben Benson and Damien Johnson will all retain their current positions at the club.

Rovers say Tomasson and Reijnierse will take up their new roles 'in the coming days' once their international clearance and UK work permit applications have been approved.

His appointment brings to an end Rovers’ month-long search for a manager with Tony Mowbray having left at the end of his contract.

Tomasson left Malmo after two years in January, having led them to the Swedish top-flight title in both 2020 and 2021, winning 46 of his 85 matches in charge.

Prior to landing the Malmo job in January 2020, Tomasson was assistant manager at Dutch side Excelsior, later becoming manager for a 25-game spell.

Tomasson left his role there to take up the head coach position with Roda JC, but left after relegation and just six months in charge.

He was then assistant manager at Vitesse Arnhem for a season, before taking up a role with the Denmark national team, working as assistant manager for three-and-a-half years before landing the Malmo job.

During a distinguished playing career, he scored 52 goals in 112 games for Denmark as a player, winning domestic titles with both Feyenoord and AC Milan, before retiring in 2011.
