The Rovers players will report back for pre-season training in a little over a month with plenty to be decided before then.

The friendlies schedule is in the process of being finalised, as is the retained list which the club are set to publish imminently.

There are several positions to be filled, most notably that of a manager, though Tony Mowbray’s replacement is most likely to have the title of a head coach, with the club also on the search for a sporting director to head up their football operations.

The club have made no comment since revealing Mowbray’s departure in a statement last Wednesday with the search ongoing.

There has so far been no update on the club’s backroom team, though that is likely to form part of the talks when interviews are held for the new manager’s position.

While Mowbray’s departure was confirmed in a club statement, there was no mention of his long-term assistant Mark Venus. He was brought to the club in the summer of 2017, after relegation from the Championship.

Venus’s contract is understood to be separate from that of Mowbray, with his future set to be clarified in the coming days.

Head of recruitment John Park is set to leave alongside Mowbray, despite having only arrived last summer as a replacement for Stuart Harvey who left for Sunderland.

When Mowbray was appointed in February 2017, he worked alongside existing club staff, with David Lowe, Ben Benson and David Dunn all promoted from their previous roles within the Academy to form his backroom team.

While Dunn went back to the Under-23s after relegation from the Championship, before leaving his post the following summer, Lowe and Benson have kept their roles as first-team coach and goalkeeping coach respectively.

Damien Johnson was appointed as first-team technical and development coach in 2019, another promotion from the Academy having previously been Under-23s manager, and all three remain in situ.

Conversations over backroom staff are expected to form part of the discussions with the new manager, but are unlikely to have the same bearing as they did during their last managerial search.

Meanwhile, the postponement of Summer Fest 2022, which was due to be staged at Ewood Park, has allowed for pitch maintenance works to get under way earlier than planned.

While the extent of the work will remain the same, the postponement of the musical festival that was set to be staged next week, has allowed the start date to be brought forward.

That will aid the groundstaff’s preparation for the season, which gets under way a week earlier than usual on July 30.

Rovers have yet to announce any home friendlies, with all four confirmed matches taking place away from Ewood Park.
