Darragh Lenihan and Joe Rothwell are both generating plenty of interest as the transfer window rumour mill kicks into action.

The Lancashire Telegraph revealed that the appointment of the next Rovers manager would have a big say in whether captain Lenihan would sign a new deal, though interest was always expected in his services.

The Irishman hopes to have his future tied up before he goes away on international duty at the end of the month, meaning time is of the essence.

Middlesbrough have now been credited with interest in the 28-year-old, which is little surprise given Boro boss Chris Wilder tracked Lenihan so hard during his time with Sheffield United.

West Bromwich Albion are another club to have been linked with Lenihan, though Rovers do retain some hope in keeping Lenihan, as they do right back Ryan Nyambe who is also out of contract.

One player definitely leaving is Joe Rothwell, the midfielder announcing his departure after four years with the club.

Bournemouth, who tried to sign him in January, remain the frontrunners in the search for Rothwell, but rival clubs are also making their move.

Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United, both involved in the Championship play-offs, are said to be keen on Rothwell, with West Brom another to have been linked.
