BURNLEY are reportedly keen to bring Sunderland youngster Dan Neil to Turf Moor in the summer transfer window.

The 20-year-old midfielder has impressed for the Black Cats this season, making 46 appearances and scoring four times.

He was also involved in the Carabao Cup as the Wearside club knocked out Championship sides Blackpool and QPR.

The Clarets reckon they could strike a deal for Neil if Sunderland fail to win promotion, according to a report by The Sun.

The Black Cats take on Sheffield Wednesday in the League One play-off semi-final second leg at Hillsborough tonight.

Alex Neil’s side currently lead 1-0 on aggregate, with Ross Stewart getting the only goal in the first leg.

The report also claims that Burnley scout Ian Butterworth was recently in attendance to watch the youngster.

The Clarets are currently above the Premier League drop zone on goal difference following Saturday’s 3-1 loss against Aston Villa.

It was their first defeat under interim boss Mike Jackson, who took charge last month following Sean Dyche’s departure.

Everton are now out of the bottom three after winning at Leicester over the weekend, with Leeds dropping to 18th following their defeat at Arsenal.

Burnley are back in action on Sunday afternoon when they head to the capital to take on Tottenham (KO 12:00pm).
