BURNLEY will be aiming to extend their winning streak when they welcome Aston Villa to Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon (KO 3pm).

The Clarets enter the game in high spirits following victories against Southampton, Wolves and Watford.

Team news

Captain Ben Mee remains sidelined by a knee injury but has been running on grass as he steps up his recovery.

Meanwhile, Jay Rodriguez is a doubt after missing Saturday’s win at Watford due to a hamstring issue.

Erik Pieters has trained this week and could return to the squad, while Maxwel Cornet is also back in training.

As for the visitors, Jacob Ramsey is a doubt and Leon Bailey misses out due to an ankle problem.

Opposition lowdown

Steven Gerrard’s men are currently 13th in the Premier League table – six points above the Clarets, who have played an extra game.

The Midlands club recorded a 2-0 win against Norwich in their last outing, with Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings getting on the scoresheet.

Burnley have faced Villa 120 times in their history, with a record of 41 wins, 28 draws and 51 defeats.

The sides haven’t met this season, with the original fixture at Villa Park postponed just a few hours before kick-off due to Covid cases in the opposition camp.

Last meeting

The Clarets came out on top after a five-goal thriller when the sides last met at Turf Moor back in January.

The visitors twice went in front thanks to goals from Watkins and Jack Grealish, but Burnley hit back through Ben Mee and Dwight McNeil.

Chris Wood then found the bottom corner with a superb header 11 minutes from time to complete the turnaround.
