ANDERLECHT boss Vincent Kompany is reportedly “in the running” to become Burnley’s new manager.

Kompany is the latest name to be linked with the job after the likes of Wayne Rooney and Chris Wilder.

The former Manchester City defender took charge at Lotto Park in 2019 after a winning four Premier League titles during a memorable 11-year spell at the Etihad.

His side finished third in the Belgian top-flight this season, losing just six league matches in total.

Kompany is still in the early stages of his managerial career but is “a contender” to succeed Sean Dyche, according to a report by The Telegraph.

Interim boss Mike Jackson remains in charge ahead of Saturday’s trip to Watford – a crucial fixture in the relegation battle.

The Clarets are out of the bottom three following back-to-back home wins against Southampton and Wolves.

But Jackson insists he is taking things one game at a time despite his impressive start to life in the Turf Moor hotseat.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, he said: “I’ve not had a chance to think about that. It’s not in the front of my mind at this moment in time.

“The total focus has been can we get this team ready and making sure we keep trying to improve them.

“I've had regular contact (with Alan Pace). We spoke about a couple of things, he’s given us his backing and we’re just going to go one game at a time.

"He’s happy with where we are and we think the best for everybody is the way we’ve been doing it so everyone’s on the same page.”
