WEST Ham defender Kurt Zouma could miss this weekend’s clash with Burnley due to an ankle injury.

Zouma suffered the injury during the first half of Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at Brentford and was unable to continue.

The defender will now miss Thursday night’s trip to Lyon in the Europa League quarter-final second leg, the club has revealed.

And it is unknown whether he will be back for Sunday’s match against the Clarets at the London Stadium.

"West Ham United can confirm that Kurt Zouma will miss Thursday’s UEFA Europa League quarter-final second leg tie against Olympique Lyonnais," read a club statement.

"The France international defender is to remain in London for further tests and examination on the ankle injury he suffered during Sunday’s Premier League match at Brentford.

"Everyone at West Ham United would like to wish Kurt a speedy recovery."

The 27-year-old has become an important member of the Hammers’ backline since joining from Chelsea for around £30million last summer.

David Moyes’ men are currently sixth in the Premier League table but have played an extra game than most of the sides around them.

The points were shared when the sides met at Turf Moor back in December following a goalless draw.

Chris Wood went closest for the Clarets, while Nick Pope made a couple of fine stops to deny Issa Diop and Said Benrahma at the other end.
