Tony Mowbray says there has been no offer, or discussions, over a new contract with his current deal set to expire in the summer.

Mowbray says work has already begun on planning for next season, but that it may not be him at the helm beyond the current campaign which has seven games left to run.

Mowbray is the club’s second-longest serving post-War boss, passing five years in charge in February, but sees his current contract, signed in November 2018, expire in June.

Chief executive Steve Waggott told the Lancashire Telegraph that the matter would be on the agenda during a planned trip to meet with owners Venky’s in India over the summer, but as yet Mowbray says there have been no discussions.

He said: “There’s no offer, there’s no discussions, no conversations, I’m anticipating trying to see this season through and then it’s the summer and I’ll be going away with my kids and my wife and see what life brings next for me.”

Mowbray says planning for next season will continue, as it has to, despite there being no contract proposal having been put to him.

It could lead to a summer of change for Rovers, with three senior players also out of contract and on the brink of leaving, as well as five loanees who will be returning to their parent clubs.

Yet the club are still in with a chance of making the Championship play-offs with seven games remaining which will remain the short-term focus.

“I can’t think about the future beyond the summer,” Mowbray added.

“I always say to every football club that I will manage the club as if I’m going to be here forever and that’s the only way to do it.

“That’s why we have to do recruitment now, we’re trying to find players for next season knowing our squad will be depleted by the out-of-contract players leaving and the gaping holes in the squad.

“My job is to put players on lists for the football club and that’s what we’re trying to do.

“I do that every day, yet in a couple of months’ time someone else might be picking the players.

“But my job while I’m here is to make sure the club knows what it’s doing and where it’s trying to go.”
