Captain Darragh Lenihan and Reda Khadra have added to Rovers’ growing injury list after the defeat at Reading last weekend, with both withdrawing from their respective international squads.

Here’s a run-down of who Rovers remain without, and when they might return.

DANIEL AYALA

Injury: Calf

Out since: February 14

Expected return date: Uncertain

Details: The central defender hasn’t been seen since being named in the side to face West Brom on February 14, only to pull-out ahead of kick-off. Scans showed no extensive damage, but the 31-year-old is yet to return to training.

Tony Mowbray: “Daniel will be fit when he’s fit. He is still struggling. I leave Daniel with the medical department and some days they will come in and say he is just about ready to go on the grass, but at this moment he’s not ready.”

BEN BRERETON

Injury: Ankle ligament

Out since: February 14

Expected return date: Imminent

Details: Brereton is currently away with the Chile national team, despite having not played for Rovers for six weeks. Rovers had wanted Brereton to rest up during the break and be ready to go against Coventry, and while that remains the hope, his return could be affected by his time away, not least the travelling, with Rovers’ next game coming three days after Chile are in action against Uruguay.

Tony Mowbray: “From our perspective I don’t think they should take any risks with him.

“They have called him up as is their right, assess him and as I’ve said, they’re playing Brazil and if he’s not fit then it’s counter-productive to put him on the pitch.”

TAYO EDUN

Injury: Ankle ligaments

Out since: January 29

Expected return date: Imminent

Details: The defeat to Reading was the 10th match that Edun has missed since being forced off at Luton. He has been back training and is close to returning to action, hopefully in time for the trip to Coventry City after the break.

Edun: “It’s definitely been a frustrating time being injured I didn’t expect it to keep me out for as long as it has and it’s been very disappointing.”

REDA KHADRA

Injury: Calf

Out since: March 19

Expected return date: Early April

Details: Khadra came off at the midway point of the first half of the Reading defeat after chasing a ball down the right wing. He travelled to Germany where he underwent a scan, but then withdrew from the Under-21s squad.  It was a second successive calf injury for the 20-year-old who is set to miss at least one match with the issue.

DARRAGH LENIHAN

Injury: Groin

Out since: March 19

Expected return date: Early April

Details: Lenihan sustained the problem against Reading, with a scan then revealing an issue with his groin. It was described by Republic of Ireland boss Stephen Kenny as a groin tear, although it is understood to be a more minor injury than that, with Lenihan expected to be out for two to three weeks.

DILAN MARKANDAY

Injury: Hamstring

Out since: January 19

Expected return date: May

Details: Markanday’s involvement in the remainder of the season hangs in the balance after he was injured on his debut at Hull City, a day after joining the club. The attacker underwent surgery in January and has now moved to the next step of his rehabilitation on the Brockhall training pitches on Monday.

Tony Mowbray: “Markanday has started his grass rehabilitation. There’s a fair chance he will be available, four to six weeks he should be ready. For the boy he just has to get himself fit and when he’ll be available, he’ll be available.

RYAN NYAMBE

Injury: Knee

Out since: February 26

Expected return date: Next match

Details: The right back was taken off on a stretcher in the second half of the QPR victory. Fears over an extended lay-off were allayed, with Nyambe back in training earlier this month. He travelled with the squad to Reading, and although he didn’t make the matchday 18, he should be back for the trip to Coventry on April 2.

Tony Mowbray: “He will be working hard in the international break to get himself into a condition where he can impact the last half a dozen games.”

IAN POVEDA

Injury: Ankle fracture/ligament damage

Out since: November 21

Expected return date: April (at the earliest)

Details: The on-loan Leeds man is yet to return to Rovers after undergoing ankle surgery in November. He is back in light training, as Rovers, who were unable to cut short his loan spell, remain in discussions over when he will be back at the club.

Tony Mowbray: "Poveda is back on the grass doing light stuff with Leeds but not yet ready to play football."

DEYOVAISIO ZEEFUIK

Injury: Calf

Out since: March 5

Expected return date: Mid-April

Details: The on-loan right back sustained the injury in the first half of the defeat to Fulham. The expected timescale on his absence was four to six weeks, which will rule Zeefuik out for at least another two matches.

Tony Mowbray: “I would suggest that we forget about Deyo for a little while.”
