Deyovaisio Zeefuik and Darragh Lenihan will definitely miss Rovers’ trip to West Brom – but Harry Pickering will be back from injury.

Zeefuik sustained a mild hamstring injury in the defeat to Nottingham Forest while captain Lenihan will miss out as he serves a one match ban.

There is better news in that left back Pickering, out since the 0-0 draw with Huddersfield Town on January 2, will return, with Tyrhys Dolan and Sam Gallagher back in the fold for the previous game.

Mowbray hopes his squad will look stronger in the weeks to come as players are welcomed back and feels that will have a positive impact on results.

“He’s an important player for us, he’s settled in really well into our football club,” Mowbray said of Pickering.

“He brings the values of the footballers that we like and he’s growing all the time.

“Have we missed him? I think you miss any good player, yet it’s difficult to gauge, because we’ve probably missed our strikers more but we have missed him.

“The team was very settled, we won most of those matches and then all of a sudden it starts breaking up and the results swing a little bit.

“At some stage when we feel we’ve got every player back fit, if we ever get to that point, then we’ll look to get back to where we were and how the team were winning football matches.”

Zeefuik’s run of three consecutive starts will come to an end however, the loanee having limped out of the closing stages of the Forest defeat.

His absence will provide Ryan Nyambe with the opportunity to slot straight back into the side.

On Zeefuik, Mowbray said: “He won’t be travelling with us.

“He’s got a very mild hamstring injury but enough that he won’t be risked.”

West Brom have dropped out of the play-offs after a tough run of form that saw them dispense with head coach Valerien Ismael.

Steve Bruce was handed the role earlier this month, with this his first home match since his appointment.

“There are some issues around one or two players that aren’t to be aired, some personal issues, family issues and I’ll pick the team that’s available that can go there and compete against a strong West Brom team,” Mowbray added.

“They’ve changed managers, but looking at my board they have some good players and could put two teams out in this league and be really strong.

“It’s never easy going to The Hawthorns but it’s a good game for us in that we have to go there and react and hopefully we can go and give our A game and give them problems.”

Another player who could come back into the side is Daniel Ayala.

The central defender hasn’t started in the league since limping out of the early stages of the Peterborough United win in November.

He’s been back in the squad since the win at Bournemouth in December, but has had to be patient given the form of Rovers’ defensive players.

Lenihan’s suspension could open the door for the Spaniard, and Mowbray said: “He’s been patient, very professional.

“He’s very experienced and was brought in to help this club. He was brought in as a dominant central defender, something this club hadn’t had for a while, yet he picked up a knock and the team functioned very, very well without him.

“Van Hecke has been a huge plus for the team, Scotty Wharton coming back from his long-term injury and adapting very, very well and Lenihan has grown into the player that he has.

“He has found himself on the outside, has generally been fit and been very professional and if he gets an opportunity for him and the club hopefully he grabs it.”
