Rovers are looking to the future with Deyovaisio Zeefuik who will be given every chance to secure himself a permanent move.

Zeefuik was Rovers’ second January signing, arriving initially on loan with a view to make that permanent in the summer.

Rovers are looking at long-term options at right back given the uncertainty over the future of Ryan Nyambe who is into the final months of his deal at Ewood Park.

Exeter City’s Josh Key is one player who Rovers looked at in the window but it is Zeefuik who is in pole position to be the club’s long-term option should Nyambe feel his future lies elsewhere.

And Mowbray said of the 23-year-old: “We will give him opportunities.

“Putting into context Ryan’s situation we need to look to the future and see where we’re going.

“If Deyo is a permanent option down the line then he needs to be given game-time to assess his qualities.”

Zeefuik made his first start for the club at Luton Town last weekend, lining up on the right side of the Rovers attack before showing his versatility by switching to left wing-back for the second half after an injury to Tayo Edun.

There he helped Rovers to a ninth clean sheet in 11 matches in a back five that included Nyambe and captain Darragh Lenihan, both who are out of contract in the summer.

But the manager says he has no concerns over the pair not giving their all for the club in the remaining games.

“Nyambe is in a difficult situation contractually, Lenihan is in a difficult situation contractually, yet when you see the commitment they give this football club, you shouldn’t be questioning them,” Mowbray added.

Zeefuik arrived from Hertha Berlin where he has been for the last 18 months after coming through the ranks at Ajax and then playing for FC Groningen in the Eredivisie.

He made an instant impact with a whole-hearted display off the bench in the win over Middlesbrough before getting his opportunity from the off at Luton.

Zeefuik will aim to keep his place for the weekend trip to Swansea City, with his attitude and energy impressing his new manager.

Mowbray added: “He’s been a bundle of energy, a fantastic personality around our dressing room and it’s exciting.

“It’s about getting him on the pitch, giving him more game-time, but Ryan has been a part of that structure that’s kept a lot of clean sheets.

“Deyo understands that scenario, he’s looking forward to the competition he’s said.

“He’s a wonderful personality, he just wants to be out on the grass running and tackling and delivering.”
