Tyrhys Dolan is set to be out for at least another three weeks with a hamstring injury as Rovers face issues in attack ahead of the visit of Middlesbrough.

Dolan has missed the last two games and has only played 57 minutes of football since losing his place to Reda Khadra after the 4-0 win over Peterborough United in November.

A period of isolation saw the 20-year-old sit out the win over Birmingham City last month with a hamstring injury sustained in training behind his latest absence.

Tony Mowbray expects him to miss another three to four weeks, that comes as new signing Dilan Markanday is set to miss the remainder of the season with a hamstring injury sustained in the closing stages of the defeat at Hull City.

Rovers will be without Ben Brereton who is away on international duty with Chile, leaving Sam Gallagher, Reda Khadra and Dan Butterworth as the available attacking options.

There is better news on central midfield Lewis Travis who is set to return to fold.

Travis saw his ever-present record in the starting line-up end in Wednesday night’s defeat to Hull City due to illness.

However, the 24-year-old has since returned to training to put himself in contention for a return to the side against Middlesbrough on Monday night.

On Dolan, Mowbray said: “Three or four weeks away.

“He’s bouncing around the building as he does, lots of energy, but frustrating for me that those options aren’t there for us at the moment.

“It’s frustrating for Tyrhys because he just wants to play football.

“There are a few issues around the building. We had a good run where I was able to pick the same team practically every week for six or seven weeks but every team goes through it.

“We can’t sit here and moan, we’ll pick a team and give it our best shot as we do every game.

“It’s an opportunity for other players when someone gets injured or ill.”

Ryan Nyambe will be available again after serving a one-match suspension following his red card at Cardiff City.

Deyovaisio Zeefuik could feature in a matchday squad for the first time after his loan signing from Hertha Berlin, but Mowbray says his options are otherwise limited with the ongoing threat of Covid.

“Looking at my board we can probably put seven subs out, but that’s it,” he added.

“The strength of our squad is the togetherness but here we are with a couple of players down, a couple with Covid, a couple with injury and an international player away and all of a sudden that tight squad looks really tight.

“It’s a challenge for every manager to get the numbers right but not randomly fill spaces.”
