Rovers have made their move for Tottenham hotshot Dilan Markanday.

Tony Mowbray confirmed the club’s interest in the attacker who has 12 goals in 14 Premier League 2 appearances for Spurs Under-23s this season.

Rovers, who yesterday concluded the loan signing of Hertha Berlin right Deyovaisio Zeefuik, are closing in on a permanent deal for Markanday with a six-figure fee mooted.

It had been expected that Markanday would extend his contract at Spurs, which expires this summer, before leaving on loan this month.

However, the forward has made clear his intention to play regular first-team football and encouraged by Rovers’ desire to bring him in on a permanent basis which has accelerated the move.

The deal is set to include add-ons which could take the fee above £1m, as well as a significant sell-on clause, a sign of how reluctant Spurs had been for Markanday to leave the club.

Markanday made his debut for debut in the Europa Conference League earlier this season but otherwise has otherwise struggled to break into the Spurs senior set-up.

The attacker, who is of Indian descent, has twice been named Premier League 2 player of the month this season and was expected to line-up against Rovers Under-23s when the teams meet on Monday night.

However, there is an increasing confidence and likelihood that Markanday will make a permanent switch to Ewood Park this month.

Rovers are wanting to add more depth to their forward options this month and are looking at a move for a central striker.

A loan to buy option has already been agreed with Hertha Berlin right back Deyovaisio Zeefuik and it is understood that a similar agreement has been explored for an attacker from Europe.

It is a market Rovers have targeted for some time but Zeefuik was only the second overseas signing after Thomas Kaminski in 2020.

Tony Mowbray said the club were working on three or four other deals to Zeefuik, with Markanday and another attacker understood to be two.

Midfield is an area of the pitch that will also come into focus after Leighton Clarkson returned to Liverpool at the end of his loan spell.

Meanwhile, Rovers are ready to allow Tyler Magloire to leave on loan this month.
