Bordeaux are willing to let Josh Maja leave this month – but would prefer a permanent deal.

Rovers were within a successful medical away from signing Maja on a season-long loan deal on deadline day in the summer.

However, a back issue highlighted in his medical saw that deal fall through and Maja return to France.

That kept him out of action until December when he returned with a goal off the bench in a 10-0 French cup win over M’Zousia.

He was then on the bench for the Ligue 1 game with Lille before a further substitute outing in the cup win over Stade Brestois.

Maja, who turned 23 last month, had a loan spell with Fulham in the second half of last season, scoring three times in 15 appearances.

He made his name during an excellent start to the League One season with Sunderland in 2018/19, scoring 16 goals, that earned him a move to the Ligue 1 club.

Maja has since made 50 appearances for Bordeaux, scoring 12 goals and adding three assists, but could be set for a January exit.

The Lancashire Telegraph has been told that Bordeaux are looking to raise funds in the January window with Maja one of the players able to leave.

However, it is understood they would want a fee of at least £3m for the Nigeria international who has 18 months left to run on his deal.

It was when Maja’s deal fell through that Rovers first looked at Oli Burke, though the cost of a loan deal, as well as the time remaining on deadline day, saw a move for the Sheffield United attacker fall through.

Tony Mowbray played down any links to the 24-year-old in this window, though Rovers are in the market for at least one attacking option this month.

However, Rovers have not made a bid for Aberdeen forward Ryan Hedges this month.

The club made a £500,000 bid for the Welshman in the summer, only to see that rejected by the Dons.

Aberdeen have since admitted defeat in their quest to tie the 26-year-old down to an extended contract, with his current deal due to expire in the summer.

Rovers have looked to sign Hedges on a pre-contract agreement and talks are ongoing about a prospective to move to Ewood Park in the summer.

However, there has no bid made to bring that forward.

Links with Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville are also wide of the mark.
