Rovers are close to agreeing a new contract with Sam Gallagher.

The Rovers attacker made a welcome return to the squad at Bournemouth after a five match absence with a calf problem and replaced Reda Khadra early in the second half.

Gallagher has scored five goals this season and will hope to put his injury issues to one side and win back his place in the side.

His longer-term future looks set to be secured as the club close in on a new deal as he heads into the final 18 months of the four-year contract he signed when joining from Southampton for £5m in the summer of 2019.

The Lancashire Telegraph understands the 26-year-old, who is one of the club's top earners, is set to put pen to paper on fresh terms which will see him under contract until 2024.

Gallagher has scored 20 times for the club since his permanent move from Saints having been on loan during the 2016/17.

Rovers have offered extended contracts to Ryan Nyambe, Darragh Lenihan, Joe Rothwell and Ben Brereton, but those remain unsigned.

There is an option in the contract of Brereton which will see him under contract until 2023, with Mowbray confirming after the win at Bournemouth that there have been no offers from any team for the 22-year-old, despite reports in the national press.

There has been no breakthrough in talks with either Nyambe, Lenihan or Rothwell who would be able to leave on free transfers next summer.

Thomas Kaminski is also a player that Rovers are looking to tie down to a new deal, as well as Lewis Travis.
