Rovers prospect Harry Leonard has signed his first professional contract with the club.

The striker has agreed a contract through to 2025 as reward for his progress.

Leonard scored in the FA Youth Cup win over Birmingham City last week and has scored seven times in six appearances for the Under-18s and already made the step up to the Under-23s.

The 18-year-old is in to the second year of his scholarship and has agreed a three-and-a-half year professional contract at the club.

Speaking of Leonard, Under-18s boss Ryan Kidd said: “He’s a very talented footballer, very secure in possession, a great football brain, technically very efficient and he’s a goalscorer.

“He does a lot of unselfish work, takes a lot of knocks but is brilliant at holding the ball up with his back to his goal.

“All he needs to do now is go up to the Under-23s and start scoring and we’ll keep working with him throughout the week but he’s a real talent.”

Leonard has been with the club since Under-10s but missed the majority of last season through injury.

He is part of an exciting crop of young players coming through below the Under-23s, including England Under-17 international Ash Phillips, left back Jake Batty and midfield duo Adam Wharton and Charlie Weston, among others.

They are currently top of the Under-18s Premier League, with one defeat from their 10 league games and sitting five points clear of nearest challengers Manchester City.
