Tony Mowbray faces ‘little decisions’ with his team selection – but says the form of his side will see the cautious approach with Sam Gallagher continue.

Rovers are expected to continue with their 3-5-2 formation that has worked well for them in back-to-back wins over Peterborough United and Stoke City with encouraging team news offering Mowbray will some positive headaches.

Daniel Ayala missed the Stoke City win, where Jan Paul van Hecke returned in his place, and deciding who plays in the centre of defence will be one call, as will whether Tyrhys Dolan is recalled in attack in place of the matchwinner at Stoke City, Reda Khadra.

With Joe Rothwell showing no ill-effects of the tightness that forced him off at the bet365 Stadium, Rovers’ biggest concern is over the fitness of first-choice goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski.

“The fact that Ayala is back on the grass means it’s not a straightforward one for me,” Mowbray said of his team selection.

“Dolan, I would normally select him for this game but Khadra, (John) Buckley and (Ben) Brereton are doing well at the top end of the pitch.

“There are a few little decisions to make.

“A few players, without giving anything away, are carrying a few knocks and as I’ve said in the past if you see the teamsheet and someone is not playing it’s probably just not pertinent for me to say that a few days before.

“Like every football team we have a few knocks and niggles this time and year but we’re hopeful the Saturday to Saturday games will solve a few of those moving forward and hopefully we can stay strong and keep picking teams that can help us get results.”

Midfielder Rothwell was given time off this week to attend the birth of his second daughter, but he has since resumed training and has been backed to continue his recent fine form.

“He’s trained, he’s fine,” Mowbray added.

“He just had stiffness when he came off the other day.

“There’s a lot going on in Joe’s life, from our perspective he’s doing fantastically well for us on the pitch.

“He has spent some time with my lady and new daughter and he’ll get his boots on and do the job for us on Saturday.”

Gallagher has now missed five games with a calf problem that forced him off in the win at Derby County six weeks ago and will be given a little longer to recover, helped by the results of the team.

The manager said: “Sam Gallagher, we’ve had a good chat with him and will probably err on the side of caution with the performance level of the team, we don’t need to rush him back.

“Even with a conservative outlook he should be ready for next week. He should have a full week training and hopefully he’ll be coming with us to Bournemouth.”
