Rovers say plans are being worked on ahead of the possible introduction of a Covid ‘Plan B’ during the winter months.

The club say they are awaiting further guidance from the Government and relevant authorities, but supporters are being urged to ‘be prepared’ for the possibility of Covid-19 certification being introduced in the near future.

That would be required for events where attendances exceed 10,000, a mark that Rovers have exceeded in five of their opening six Championship fixtures.

That would mean supporters wanting to attend a match at Ewood could be required to provide proof that they have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, have tested negative in the lead up to the match or are medically exempt.

It comes as part of the Government’s autumn and winter plan published in response to the ongoing pandemic, which could see face coverings in public places becoming mandatory again, as well as the need for Covid certification.

Rovers said: “While it is unclear what the finer details of any restrictions may look like at this stage, steps are being taken to ensure the club is as prepared as possible for all eventualities and supporters are advised to adopt a similar forward-thinking approach.

“As always, the health and wellbeing of all players, staff and supporters inside the stadium is of paramount importance to the club and we will continue to take all the necessary steps, required by law, to ensure a safe environment for everyone visiting Ewood Park, including the potential introduction of a vaccine passport system.”

“As discussions between the Government and football authorities continue, the club will provide further updates on the situation in due course.”
