Rovers player ratings from the 1-0 defeat at QPR

Thomas Kaminski 6

Said he was unsighted for Chair’s winner when left rooted to the spot. Made one smart save to deny Dykes, but that came from a poor throw out. Warned repeatedly for taking too long over goal kicks.

Ryan Nyambe 7

Looked to be having some success against McCallum and was a good outlet for Rovers, but didn’t see enough of his forward bursts after the break. His final ball is the only thing letting his game down, including one in the first half when trying to tee up Brereton.

Darragh Lenihan 7

Won five headers and six clearances, including some important ones around the hour mark as QPR started to get on top.

Daniel Ayala 6

Seeing much more of the ball playing in the centre of the back three, and doesn’t look all that comfortable. Yet defensively he remains a dependable figure.

Jan Paul van Hecke 6

Didn’t have the same impact with his distribution as on his debut, but did last the 90 minutes much better than against Coventry. Locked himself in a physical battle with Dykes in the closing stages.

Harry Pickering 6

Was Rovers’ most consistent performer in a first half where little happened. Contained Adomah whose influence on the game grew after his departure. Has proven to be a very solid signing, and the potential of him missing the weekend due to a calf injury would be a blow.

Lewis Travis 6

Tried his best to run off a dead leg after a collision with Dicke, but proved unable to. Rovers missed his energy after his departure.

Tayo Edun 6

Moved into central midfield as he kept his place, and did made some good interceptions in the first half. Struggled against Adomah when moved to wing-back for the second half, but it was from his cross that Rovers almost led as Barbet turned the ball against his own post.

Leighton Clarkson 5

Played as the most advanced of the midfield trio, and did play one neat ball to create an opening for Nyambe in the first half but couldn’t have the creative impact Rovers would have wanted. Corners, and a shot at goal from a free kick, were disappointing.

Dan Butterworth 5

Had Rovers’ sole attempt on target, and another wide of the target at the end of a good run forward early on, but lost the ball a little too easily at times when failing to protect the ball well enough. Booked for throwing the ball away as he became increasingly frustrated.

Ben Brereton 5

Didn’t get much change out of Dickie and was frustrated with several refereeing decisions. Didn’t look to have freedom in his movement in a game where he didn’t have a sight of goal.

Subs

Bradley Johnson (for Travis, 34) 5

Was unable to close down Chair for the QPR winner. A first appearance of the season, but didn’t have the influence on the game he would have wanted, completing only 52 per cent of his passes.

Joe Rothwell (for Pickering, 46) 5

Added some life to Rovers after his introduction and involved in a move that almost saw them take the lead. However, that was a rare break forward for the midfielder who had only 13 touches in 45 minutes. Lost Chair in the lead-up to the QPR goal.

Sam Gallagher (for Butterworth, 67) 5

Replacing the tired Butterworth but arrived on the pitch at a time when Rovers were on the back foot.
