Harry Pickering and Reda Khadra trained with the squad today to put themselves in contention to make the trip to QPR.

Pickering lost his ever-present record in the side at the weekend, while loanee Khadra was also unavailable for the draw with Coventry City, as the pair missed out through tonsillitis.

Illness has hit the Rovers squad within the last couple of weeks, with Tony Mowbray reporting a disrupted international break which saw a number of players fail to train.

Tyrhys Dolan did shake off a bout of illness to start against the Sky Blues, despite training just once, while Sam Gallagher is continuing to manage a hamstring issue.

Giving an update ahead of the game against Rangers, Mowbray said: "It is looking better but one or two still might not make it though. Illness is illness and sometimes it takes it out of you.

"Without telling you who isn't and who is, it's been different levels of illness.

"It's been described as tonsillitis for a few of them which appears to have knocked the stuffing out of a few and in different varying degrees. There'll be some that we don't take to London but hopefully they'll be ready for the weekend."

Mowbray reported no fresh injuries from the weekend where Jan Paul van Hecke made his debut and Tayo Edun was handed a first start as Rovers moved to a back three.

Ben Brereton handed Mowbray a boost by being available to make the bench despite returning to the UK only a matter of hours before the game following his international commitments with Chile.

He is in line for a recall to the starting line-up as Rovers make the trip south, with a home date with Reading on Saturday rounding off the three-game week.

Mowbray added: “It is (hectic) but it’s the same for every team. There'll be changes to people's teams as they go along, teams will pick up injuries and the team can look a bit different some days.

"Ultimately it's about the depth of the squad and I've said that in the past. We've struggled with our squad depth, not necessarily for numbers but for youthfulness. It's okay having young players coming in and doing the job, trying to get the experience but if it affects the results at times it's not what you need.

"Hopefully we keep clear of major injuries to key players and we'll be fine I'm sure.”
