Mark Robins was left in no doubt that the travelling support played a key factor in the Sky Blues’ second half comeback.

Attacking the end that housed their near 4,000 strong away following, Coventry scored twice in six minutes to cancel out Rovers’ 2-0 lead they had built up at the break.

All four goals came at the Darwen End, a quickfire double from Joe Rothwell and Sam Gallagher giving Rovers a two-goal lead at half time, only for a Tyler Walker close-range finish and Thomas Kaminski own goal completing the fightback from the visitors.

And boss Robins said of the support: “They took it to another level, so I can’t wait for Wednesday (at Preston North End). They were outstanding.

“I spoke about them at half-time because they are desperate to get behind them.

“Whatever is happening, they are behind them so there’s no need to have any reticence. Just go and attack the game and give them everything you possibly can do because they give us everything they can.

“They were absolutely outstanding and there’s no doubt in my mind that that helped us get back in the game.

“They are a massive, massive 12th man. They are a different level, they were brilliant.

“We were driving in and we saw them outside the pubs and it’s different to anything we have seen for a good few years now, so it’s fantastic and I am pleased we managed to get back in the game and give them something to be fairly happy about.”

Rovers were rocking at 2-2 and escaped loud penalty appeals when Viktor Gyokeres went down in the box under the challenge of Lewis Travis.

Referee Matthew Donohue was unmoved, but Robins said the striker’s ankle gave an indication of why a penalty should have been awarded.

That came just days after striker Matty Godden had been hit with a retrospective two-game ban for diving when winning a penalty in the win over Fulham.

“There’s a penalty in there. Viktor’s ankle is up like a balloon,” Robins added.

“We had one in the last game with Matty Godden, which was dubious. No-one goes to deceive anyone. The tackle put him off balance and it’s damaged his ankle but the distance between the tackle and him going down is probably too much, and you can understand then why the referee has made the decision.

“He didn’t think there was enough contact but if you saw his ankle you’d know that if there had been any more contact he’d have been in trouble.

“But I think we have to be happy with a point and really happy with the second half performance.”
