Ryan Hedges never pushed for a move away from Aberdeen who rejected a £500,000 bid from Rovers for the attacker last month.

Hedges was linked heavily with Rovers during the summer window, with the Dons revealing the club had turned down a bid for the 26-year-old.

The Welshman is out of contract next summer, so his future will come under the spotlight again in January, with Aberdeen having made an offer to keep hold of Hedges who is set to return to action this weekend following a hamstring injury which has kept him out for the last six weeks.

Hedges scored nine times in 32 appearances last season, and manager Stephen Glass said there were no demands to leave during the summer.

“I think Ryan loves it here, that’s important,” he told The Press & Journal.

“He’s not in here banging the door saying: ‘why are you not letting me go, teams are looking at me’.

“Players know when teams are after them these days.

“We all know that. But his mind is great and he’s ready to perform.

“His professionalism has been fantastic.

“As it has been with other people in the same situation as well.”

Hedges started out at Swansea City, with loan spells at Stevenage, Leyton Orient and Yeovil before joining Barnsley on a permanent deal in January 2017.

He then moved to Aberdeen in the summer of 2019, with the club now looking to secure his long-term future.

“I think Ryan is the type of player who knows performances will get him a better future here or a better future elsewhere, it’s up to him,” Glass added.

‘When you get to that stage of a contract, the decision becomes his.”
