Rovers player ratings from the 0-0 draw at Barnsley.

Thomas Kaminski 7

Good saves in either half, first to deny Oduor with his feet when the midfielder danced his way into the box, the second a fingertip effort from Helik’s header. Second clean sheet in a row for the Belgian.

Ryan Nyambe 8

Won seven tackles, and his heading continues to improve. As a one-v-one defender, there aren’t many in the division and limited the Barnsley threat down the flank. Clearing headers much improved.

Darragh Lenihan 7

Remains too eager at times to win the ball, but built on a fine showing against Hull with another strong display, making six clearances and doing well in the battle with Woodrow.

Daniel Ayala 8

The ball appeared attracted to him in the box with seven clearances and showed all his experience at times with two blocked shots. Has now started as many matches this season as he did in the last campaign.

Harry Pickering 7

Has made a solid start to life as the new Rovers left back. One fine first half pass created an opening for Brereton but otherwise it was his defensive work that stood-out, with four interceptions.

Lewis Travis 6

Was pumped from the opening whistle, and wasn’t far from the action.

John Buckley 6

Still full of running at the final whistle after coming through just a second 90 minutes of the season. Sacrificed himself somewhat to play a more defensive-minded role for much of the game, winning five tackles and showing good reading of the game.

Joe Rothwell 5

Touched the ball only 32 times before being replaced and didn’t link up with the front three as much as he would have wished. Failed to shoot from one promising angle on the edge of the box in the first half.

Ian Poveda 5

Restored to the starting line-up after injury and looked lively in the early exchanges but soon drifted out of the game and wasn’t as assured in possession as Rovers required. Didn’t give Nyambe much cover defensively.

Tyrhys Dolan 5

One excellent piece of skill in the first half saw him fizz a ball across the six-yard box, but not enough of that. Sometimes played too safe, Unfortunate to be booked for an accidental foul after slipping. Dispossessed three times.

Ben Brereton 5

Missed the big chance of the afternoon when his first touch took him too close to keeper Collins when played through. Caught offside at vital moments too, and a little too keen to get embroiled in a physical battle when not required.

Subs

Reda Khadra (for Dolan, 67) 6

One excellent pass to put Brereton in, and teed up Clarkson for a late chance.

Leighton Clarkson (for Poveda, 67) 6

Operated in the advanced midfield role and had a chance to win it late on, only to shoot straight at Collins.

Tayo Edun (for Rothwell, 71) 6

A Rovers debut in the middle of midfield in which he showed a tenacious side.
