Tony Mowbray felt Rovers got it tactically spot on defensively to earn a point on the road at Barnsley.

Rovers made it back-to-back clean sheets, the second in four days after the 2-0 win over Hull City, to leave Oakwell still unbeaten on the road.

The point actually moved them into the top six, despite failing to create anything of note until a chance for Ben Brereton in the final 20 minutes when he was denied one-on-one by Brad Collins.

Thomas Kaminski made important saves in either half, with Darragh Lenihan and Daniel Ayala marshalling the side from the centre of defence.

Having waited 16 games for a clean sheet, Rovers picked up a second in the week, and Mowbray felt the positioning of full backs Ryan Nyambe and Harry Pickering was key to ensuring that.

He said: “We played slightly different. You play Barnsley away who are really good on the transition and have some really good players in the attacking third, you don’t bomb your full backs on, you keep them at home, not overlapping, because you know Barnsley will transition into the spaces against you.

“Tactically, we got it right defensively I think it was just a shame that we couldn’t have scored.

“Maybe if we let them off the reins we might have scored with the full backs overlapping but first and foremost it was about not going behind to this team because they have some very good players.

“I still thought right until the end we could have won it, we looked dangerous on the transition, as they did, that’s what they do.

“They flood men forward when they win the ball back in midfield, they have some good players. Woodrow with his back to goal is an exceptionally good player, and we’ll take the point and move on.

“It’s now four games away from now unbeaten and we would have liked to have been sitting here having won 1-0 but we take the point.

“We didn’t take our chances, we weren’t as clinical as we would have liked to have been, but the team worked hard, looked organised.

“This is a tough place to come, it’s been a long time since we’ve come here and won because it’s really difficult, particularly with the fans back in.

“I think our fans need a mention, I thought they were pretty amazing. It would have been nice to have scored infront of them, but it wasn’t to be.”
