Rovers are expecting to be without Leeds United loanee Ian Poveda for a second successive game after picking up a minor hamstring strain in training.

Poveda made his debut against Middlesbrough before the international break but was absent for the 2-2 draw with Luton Town after sustaining an injury in training.

Tony Mowbray expects the 21-year-old to return to training tomorrow, when Bradley Johnson is also set to step up his recovery, as Rovers desperately hope to get more players back available.

They were without eight first-team players for the Luton draw, including Poveda, though Reda Khadra was fit enough to take up a spot on the bench, although he went unused.

Hayden Carter will be back from suspension after serving his one-match ban and Mowbray hopes the injury to Poveda won’t keep him out for any more than the Hull City visit on Tuesday, while Joe Rankin-Costello is also nearing his return to action.

Asked if Poveda will make Tuesday night, the manager said: “I don’t think so.

“He’s a lad who came from Leeds United with the data of being one of the fittest players at Leeds and within a week or two has a slight hamstring strain after training for a week or two with us.

“It’s a different type of training really, his body has to adapt, he’s got a very mild strain.

“He’ll start training again on Monday, whether we can risk him training again on Tuesday I doubt that.

“We’ll probably wait until Barnsley.”
