Rovers player ratings from the 2-2 draw with Luton Town.
Thomas Kaminski 6
Big save in the second half to deny Jerome but beaten by two close-range Berry finishes. Far less involved in the build-up than last season.
Ryan Nyambe 7
Set up the opener for Dolan and drew a save from Sluga with a second half shot. His heading has improved immeasurably and didn’t allow Mendes Gomes to get into the game.
Darragh Lenihan 6
Fortunate to escape with a yellow card in the first half for a lunging challenge which could have cost his side. Won seven headers, and an excellent pass helped create the opening goal.
Daniel Ayala 6
A couple of moments of indecision and was dragged out of position for the first Luton goal, but generally defended well, with five clearances and three interceptions made.
Harry Pickering 7 (Man of the match)
Fired home his first in Rovers colours with a fine finish from Brereton’s pass and was solid in his defensive work throughout. His best game since signing, on the back of Tayo Edun’s arrival, and will take some dislodging on this evidence.
Lewis Travis 6
Didn’t always move it quick enough in possession and was caught on the ball, including once which should have led to Jerome scoring.
John Buckley 7
Led the Rovers press from midfield and wasn’t overawed against a physical Luton midfield. Came up with the first moment of quality of the match to create Dolan’s opener. Tired soon after the hour. Deserved his recall.
Joe Rothwell 6
His trademark breaks forward didn’t have the necessary end product, but it did feel as though he could be the man to open Luton up, despite only touching the ball 42 times.
Tyrhys Dolan 7
Fired home his second of the season and was lively from the off operating from the right, but didn’t get into the game as much when moved centrally. Booked for simulation when going down wanting a penalty in the second half.
Ben Brereton 6
Ended the game out on his feet, and with an assist for Pickering’s goal, but missed an excellent chance to get one of his own when denied by Sluga after being played clean through. Involved a confrontation with the Luton keeper early in the second half.
Sam Gallagher 6
Had an excellent chance of his own after Brereton was denied by Sluga in injury time. Certainly put himself about leading the line, but didn’t make the most of his opportunities. Showed to feet well at times, but needs to do more of that.
Subs
Jacob Davenport (for Buckley, 74) 6
Rovers could have done with his energy a little earlier, his substitution coming in the aftermath of the first Luton goal.
Tyler Magloire (for Rothwell, 80) 5
Didn’t look comfortable on the left side of a back three.
Not used: Aynsley Pears, Lenni Cirino, Leighton Clarkson, Dan Butterworth, Reda Khadra
