Ryan Nyambe is back in full training with his return to the side set to coincide with the suspension to stand-in Hayden Carter.

Nyambe has missed the last three matches with a hamstring issue, ruling out any prospect of him featuring for Namibia in the international break, but he has trained with the squad in the last two days.

Carter deputised for the injured Nyambe in games against Nottingham Forest, West Brom and Middlesbrough where he was sent off and will now serve a one-match ban.

That will come for the visit of Luton Town on September 11 where Rovers should have Joe Rankin-Costello back in action. He will play the second of his comeback matches against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League Cup on Monday.

Bradley Johnson is also stepping up his fitness in a bid to return to the side as soon after the international break as possible. The experienced midfielder is approaching two months out with a hamstring problem.

Rovers’ full back options will be boosted upon the return to action, with competition at left back for Harry Pickering, who has played all six matches so far, coming in the form of Tayo Edun.

The 23-year-old signed on a permanent deal from Lincoln City on deadline day and will compete with Pickering, but also offer versatility further forward.

Rankin-Costello will do similar, despite the majority of his 16 starts last season coming in the full back areas, where he played on his return to action for the Under-23s last week.

The 22-year-old will get another chance to get minutes under his belt on Monday before pushing for inclusion in the squad against Luton after the break.

Nyambe has largely been first choice under Mowbray at right back and he will likely come straight back in for the visit of Luton where Rovers will look to continue their positive start.

A point against Middlesbrough made it eight from their opening set of five fixtures.

Carter started the Boro draw at right back, but was moved into the centre of defence as part of a back three for the second half with Tyler Magloire operating in an unfamiliar right back role.

Since then Rovers have added Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke, the 21-year-old Dutchman brought in on a season-long loan, but he has had fitness issues throughout the summer which will be assessed before a decision is taken on his possible involvement.
