Sam Morsy has seen a three-match suspension upheld following his sending off in the draw with Rovers.

Morsy was sent off for what described as ‘endangering an opponent’ during a challenge with Tyler Magloire.

Referee Michael Salisbury pulled out a straight red card moments after Hayden Carter had been sent off for a second bookable offence in the 1-1 draw at Middlesbrough.

The Rovers defender will miss the Luton Town game on September 11 due to his one match ban, but Morsy will have to serve a three match suspension after his dismissal was upheld.

Since the 1-1 draw, the 29-year-old has switched clubs, signing for Ipswich Town in League One where he will work under manager Paul Cook for a third time after previous stints together at Wigan Athletic and Chesterfield.

Boro boss Neil Warnock made clear the club’s intention to appeal against the red card after the game, with Tony Mowbray offering sympathy to his opposite number over the red card.

But it was Ipswich who revealed the three match ban stands, meaning he will miss league games against Bolton Wanderers, Sheffield Wednesday and Lincoln City, but he will be eligible for the Papa John’s Trophy game against West Ham Under-21s on September 14.

“It was a very, very poor decision. He said to the linesman or fourth official that it was a straight red, deliberately attempting to injure him,” Warnock explained of the Morsy red card.

“The tackle, I don’t even think it’s a booking. He’s flicked his right leg out, I’ll give him that.

“But it’s not a straight leg and he’s hardly made contact with him. It’s a strange decision which compounds a bad afternoon for him really.”

Giving his opinion, Mowbray added: “I must say that I can’t even see Morsy’s red card, don’t know, referee was quick to get his card out.”
