Rovers will move for Reda Khadra despite the arrival of Ian Poveda with the move to be tied up next week.

Khadra will travel to East Lancashire for a second time to wrap up the deal ahead of next Tuesday’s deadline having undergone rehabilitation on a minor ankle injury flagged up in his medical.

That came earlier this month, with the Lancashire Telegraph having revealed Rovers’ interest in the 20-year-old on August 9 and that point he looked like becoming the club’s first signing of the summer.

Since then Rovers have tied up deals for Liverpool midfielder Leighton Clarkson and Leeds United attacker Ian Poveda, both on season-long loans.

Rovers see the latter as more of a No.10 and feel Khadra will provide an option on the flanks, as Tony Mowbray looks to shape his new-look attack following the sale of Adam Armstrong.

The final piece is a striker, with the club continuing to their search for Armstrong's replacement.

A German winger of Lebanese descent, Khadra made his Premier League debut against Manchester City in January, but injury restricted any further appearances. He also clocked up three goals and two assists in six Premier League 2 outings.

Mowbray has stated that Rovers will at the very least look to fill their five loan spots, while the most likely permanent deal would be a striker.

Defensive additions are on the agenda, and Khadra may not be the only player making the move from Brighton to Rovers before the deadline closes, with a deal for central defender Jan Paul van Hecke being worked on.

The Seagulls signed the centre-back last summer from NAC Breda, for a fee that could rise to around £2.5m, and he was loaned out to Heerenveen for the remainder of the season.

Van Hecke made 28 appearances in the Eredivisie and Heerenveen had looked a possible return for the defender, but those negotiations stalled.

The 21-year-old is yet to play for Brighton, but is highly-regarded, and could get a chance to further his development with a move to Ewood Park after overcoming an injury.

Seagulls boss Graham Potter said: “Van Hecke is getting close to being back on the pitch, so he should be not far away, he is responding well.”
