Rovers have announced the signing of Leeds United attacker Ian Poveda on a season-long loan.

Poveda becomes the second loan signing of the summer, following on from Liverpool midfielder Leighton Clarkson who arrived last week and made his debut in the defeat to West Bromwich Albion.

The 21-year-old has played 14 times in the Premier League for the Elland Road club, all as a substitute, having featured in 32 matchday squads last season, but he is yet to feature so far this season and wasn’t involved in the pre-season friendly draw at Ewood Park last month.

Tony Mowbray had identified the need for individuality at the top end of the pitch following the departure of Harvey Elliott who starred during a similar deal last season after arriving from Liverpool, contributing 11 assists and scoring seven times.

Poveda has represented England up to Under-20 level and came through the ranks at Manchester City who he starred against in a 45-minute outing at Elland Road last October.

Poveda will likely be in the squad for the weekend visit to Middlesbrough, with Rovers looking to get more recruits through the door before then, and up to four more new faces ahead of the transfer window closing on August 31.

Rovers have announced he will wear the number 30 shirt and has been given permission to play in the FA Cup.
