John Park’s appointment as head of recruitment was a ‘no brainer’ for Tony Mowbray.

Mowbray and Park will team up for the third time, having first met in 2004 at Hibernian before then working together again at Celtic, with the Scot brought in as a replacement for Stuart Harvey who joined Sunderland in April.

Park’s move to Rovers is his first taste of English football, having also worked for Hamilton Academical, Maccabi Haifa and Legia Warsaw, but has built up a reputation as a talent spotter.

Mowbray hopes that will bear fruit for Rovers, and says the new recruitment chief won’t leave any stone unturned.

He said: “John Park for me, it’s what people might term a no brainer.

“His pedigree is picking out good footballers out from nowhere and he was available.

“I’ve kept in touch with John since 2004 when I first met him getting off a flight from Stansted to Edinburgh. I’d just taken over at Hibernian and John picked me up that day and took me to the ground and we’ve had a tight relationship since.

“He’s a lovely guy, a lovely personality, he’s a workaholic, I’ve never seen anyone work the hours that John does.

“I felt he was right for this football club. He’s an amazing guy and I hope he can help us.

“It’s not easy but he can pick a quality footballer out when he sees one.

“Hopefully John will prove his value over a period of time.”
