Rovers have announced that matchday programmes won’t be produced for the upcoming season and instead be replaced by a monthly magazine.

The magazine will be introduced on September 1 and include interviews with current and former players, as well as behind the scenes coverage and Junior Rovers competitions.

The EFL announced in 2018 that it was no longer mandatory for club’s to produce matchday programmes following discussions between all 72 of its members.

Despite running at a loss, Rovers continued to publish programmes in hard copy up until last season.  In 2020/21, with fans unable to attend matches, Rovers produced a digital programme that could be downloaded, and a matchday supplement will be available to fans from mid-day tomorrow.

“Rovers recognise that buying a programme is part of the matchday experience for some supporters, however despite concerted efforts over recent years to increase its appeal, sales have dropped significantly to the point that it is no longer commercially viable,” a statement read.

“As we move into a new digital era, the club is eager to produce more engaging content across our popular social media platforms, as well as our new website, App and Rovers TV subscription service, and we hope the new monthly magazine will appeal to both collectors and our wider fanbase as a whole.

“Further details about the first edition and how you can purchase the magazine will be announced in due course.”
