Rovers’ head of European scouting Glyn Chamberlain is to leave the club after 18 months in post.

Chamberlain’s contract is set to expire this month, and Training Ground Guru have reported that won’t be renewed.

That comes in the wake of Rovers’ appointment of John Park as their new head of recruitment, replacing Stuart Harvey who left to take up a similar post at Sunderland in April.

Park was appointed last month as Harvey’s replacement, with the Scot having last worked at Legia Warsaw. He has worked with Tony Mowbray twice before at Hibernian and Celtic, and has knowledge of the European markets after spells with Warsaw and Maccabi Haifa.

He will head up the recruitment department which was re-structured by Mowbray after promotion back to the Championship in 2018, which looked to take advantage of opportunities in the European markets.

Chamberlain, appointed in February 2020, has previously worked for Cardiff City, Burnley and Doncaster Rovers in recruitment roles and had a spell as assistant manager at Macclesfield Town between 2010 and 2012.

He was appointed to head up the overseas recruitment, with Thomas Kaminski a big success, signed from Belgian side KAA Gent last summer, but changes to requirements for new signings in the wake of Brexit have made dealings much more difficult.

With finances tight, recruitment this summer is set to focus on domestic loan deals from Premier League clubs.

Speaking in October 2020, Chamberlain said: “At Blackburn Rovers, the owners and senior management have been very supportive to the whole club throughout this pandemic.

“The recruitment department has been working well and the analysts have done a great job in filtering players, but the reality is that the live scouting element isn’t as effective as it could be.

“Scouts are needed at this time of year as much as they've ever been, if not more.

“Many teams are under financial pressure and player trading will help them to balance what are already incredibly precarious balance sheets. And before this transfer window has even closed, recruitment departments will be working in preparation for the next one in January.”

Earlier this week, Stoke City confirmed the appointment of Simon Cooper who had headed up Rovers’ Academy recruitment. He will take on a similar role in the Potteries.

Blackburn Rovers have been approached for comment.
