Tony Mowbray expects to be able to replace only a handful of the players from last season’s squad.

Rovers are yet to add to their squad this summer and have seen 11 players depart, either at the end of their contracts, or loan deals.

Mowbray expects loan deals to be Rovers’ main mode of business this summer, but says those are being held up by Premier League clubs waiting on their Euro 2020 stars to return before letting their youngsters out.

Speaking after his side’s 1-1 draw with Leeds United, Mowbray said: “I know how much we’ve got to spend and it depends on the salary levels of the players we negotiate with.

“We might get four, might get five, might get six, but they have to be way below salary levels.

“We hope to try and get some players to help this group if we can.”

Asked if any deals were close, Mowbray said: “I think so with some.

“I have been isolating but we’ve all been working hard, talking to the relevant clubs and I think nearly all of them will be loans.

“We’re doing our best. The issue is that when you talk to some of these ‘super clubs’ generally all their players are internationals so not back yet and they’re taking their young players away with them and they’re not available yet.

“I think invariably we’ll be taking players on loan from some pretty big clubs.

“It’s not easy because generally we’re looking at loans and the loan players are generally playing with their clubs and time will dictate when they can go out on loan.”
