Derek Adams felt his Bradford City side controlled the pre-season friendly win over Rovers.

A penalty from Lee Angol and strike from midfielder Callum Cooke gave the League Two side a deserved victory against Rovers at Valley Parade.

Two divisions separate the side, and although Rovers came out to dominate from the off, the Bantams grew into the game and took the lead 19 minutes in when Angol converted the penalty won after Daniel Ayala tripped Alex Gilliead.

Thomas Kaminski was beaten by the spot-kick, but did save well to deny Levi Sutton and Andy Cook, but was beaten for a second time before the hour mark when Cooke hammered the ball into the roof of the net.

It maintained the Bantams’ unbeaten pre-season, which saw them beat League One side Doncaster seven days earlier, with Adams pleased with what he has seen from his team after joining from Morecambe after their promotion to League One.

“The players want to win football matches and to have that mentality to go out there and want to be better than the opposition is something we’re going to need throughout the season,” he told the Telegraph & Argus.

“To have it in pre-season, is hugely beneficial.

“I’m delighted. We came up against a very good starting XI from Blackburn Rovers.

“They were very experienced with good rotation in midfield and a striker in (Adam) Armstrong as well. But we dealt well with the threat and grew in confidence.

“We knew they would try to play out from the back. We dealt well with that threat and a number of times we created chances off them.

“The pleasing thing was that we finished the game really strongly. As it went on, I think we controlled it.”
