Accrington Stanley midfielder Dan Martin wants to break into the first-team picture after signing a new deal at the Wham Stadium.

The 19-year-old – who has been with the Reds from Under-9 level – has signed on for another year with the option of a further 12 months.

And Martin wants to keep progressing as John Coleman's men prepare for a third successive season in League One.

“I am delighted, buzzing as I didn't know if I would get a new contract," said Martin.

"I was on the bench a few times last season, so the aim is to be on the bench a few more times this season and maybe make my debut. The aim is to get in the first team and get as many minutes as I can.

"In the last year, my game has developed, seeing how all the senior pros play and with advice from the coaches and I have learnt a lot, especially from Seamus Conneely as that is my position.

"The Under 23s squad is also strong, we are in a league this season, so the aim is to get as many minutes as I can with them as well and learn even more."

The Reds have also announced that Luke Stowe and Kevin Spinelli have signed their first professional contracts with the club after progressing through the Academy system.

"Luke and Kevin have worked hard as scholars with us," said Coleman.

"They've both got a lot of ability but they've now got to transfer that into men's football.

"Luckily we've got a strong Under-23s side that will play a lot of games, we're in a league now and that can only make them better players.

"Paul Lodge and Duncan Fearnhead have done a superb job with the Academy, we've got to try and keep improving and one thing we have to do is grow our own players."
