Matt Jansen is back in management – and could possibly pull on his boots once again – after being named as manager of Stockport Town.

Rovers favourite Jansen has been appointed manager of the North West Counties league Division One South outfit, his first taste of management since leaving Chorley in 2018.

The 10th tier club have even raised the possibility that the 43-year-old could make a playing return.

A club statement read: “We are absolutely delighted to announce the appointment of our new manager Matt Jansen

“Matt brings in an absolute wealth of experience to the club from playing and managing. He has also signed non contact forms, making him eligible to play for Town.

“Matt will be assisted by a talented backroom team, who will be announced in due course.

“Exciting times ahead here at Stockport Town and we are all eager to get started. The club and Matt look forward to welcoming you all to SSV.”

Stockport Town are owned by Pro Football Academy, whose majority shareholder is wealthy businessman Mark Stott, who also owns Stockport County, where Jansen had been working within the recruitment department.

Writing on social media, Jansen said: “Really excited to get stuck in to this new adventure with a great team around me.”

Jansen signed for Rovers in 1999 and scored the goal that saw them promoted to the Premier League in 2001. In all he played 182 games for the club, scoring 57 goals.
