Sam Clucas has ended any speculation over his future by signing a new deal at Stoke City.

Rovers were first linked with Clucas in May, but those links were later played down to the Lancashire Telegraph, as well as the club being in a registration embargo at the time.

Clucas had been free to leave the club for free until the end of June, but with that deadline passed, the Potters have moved to tie him down to a new contract at the bet365 Stadium.

The versatile midfielder has made 100 appearances for the Potters, scoring 16 times, since moving to the bet365 Stadium from Swansea City in an £6m deal 2018.

Manager Michael O’Neill said: “Sam has been an important player for the Club over the past three years and we are delighted that he is committed to us for at least another two years.”

The 30-year-old managed just 26 appearances last season, but is closing in on 400 across his career, with 62 goals to his name.

His £6m move to Stoke City came only a year after Swansea City had splashed out £16m to sign him from Hull City.
