Lewis Thompson could land himself a deal with League Two side Scunthorpe United.

The left back, released by Rovers in the summer, has spent time on trial with the Iron and looks to have done enough to earn himself a permanent deal.

The 21-year-old saw his time come to an end with Rovers, having been a regular within the Under-23s set-up for the last three seasons, clocking up 46 Premier League 2 appearances in all.

The Northern Ireland Under-21 international departed without making a senior appearance for the club, but was a consistent performer for the Under-23s, while coronavirus cut short a loan spell with AFC Fylde.

Iron boss Neil Cox says Thompson has impressed while on trial, and conversations have been held over the prospect of a permanent deal.

“Lewis we knew a lot about, we watched him four or five times last year, an attacking full back who can play left midfield as well, or in a five,” Cox told BBC Radio Humberside.

“He’s someone we really like, a really good character, you can tell in the games we’ve played already he’s got a winning mentality.

“We’ll make a decision on him shortly because I know there’s four or five clubs that have rung him and they want him to go in there.”
