Enquiries are increasing to take several of Rovers’ young players on loan – but deals remain quiet on the outgoing front, as well as incomings.

The club will look to move several of their Academy prospects out to further their development, but others are set to stick around for the time being given the shortage of numbers within the squad.

Connor McBride, scorer of Rovers’ goal in the win at AFC Fylde, is attracting interest and that is something the club are open to for the 20-year-old who netted 12 times in Premier League 2 last season.

They are keen to test some of their youngsters in the EFL, with central defender Louie Annesley another who will be considered for a loan move.

The Gibraltar international signed a two-year deal with the club earlier this summer and has made clear his intention to go out on loan should the opportunity arise.

He featured in the friendly, as did right back Dan Pike, another player to have received interest.

Pike played 19 times for the Under-23s last season, and featured in three matchday squads, and has impressed Tony Mowbray, including during last week’s training camp in Scotland.

The teenager is currently back-up option to Ryan Nyambe at right back, not least with Joe Rankin-Costello currently out injured, the 21-year-old targeting a return to action for the opening day of the season visit of Swansea City.

Pike sticking around could allow him to compete with Nyambe, but also pursue a role in his more-favoured attacking position.

Rovers utilised the loan market extensively in January for their young players, but so far only Joe Hilton has moved out on loan, signing for Hamilton Academical on a season-long deal.

There were plenty of success stories, including Hayden Carter (Burton Albion), Tyler Magloire (Motherwell) and Brad Lyons (Morecambe), but equally Jack Vale struggled to make an impact at Rochdale.

The attacker, also used at Fylde, endured a disappointing campaign, the first half of it interrupted by injury and the second seeing him get just 44 minutes of game-time for the League One side.

A lack of incomings will keep several of the young players at the very least around the squad for pre-season.

Tyler Magloire has been loaned out on three separate occasions in the last two seasons, and is another waiting for a decision on his future. Morecambe have been linked with a move, but so far an offer is yet to be forthcoming.

Others, including Carter, wouldn’t be short of suitors should their availability status change, the 21-year-old currently part of the first-team squad who have just two fit senior central defenders, as Scott Wharton, a positive example of the loan system, continues his rehabilitation from a ruptured Achilles.
