THE senior councillor who was at Wembley to see England win the 1966 World Cup was 'terribly disappointed' to see the team lose penalties to Italy in the Euro 2020 final at the same venue.
Blackburn with Darwen Borough deputy leader and lifelong Blackburn Rovers fan Cllr Phil Riley said the winners had 'too much know how' for the young Lions.
Speaking this morning having watched the match on TV at home, he said: "Clearly I am terrible disappointed.
"I think this time we came up against opponents who had got too much know how and that contributed to the result.
"As a young team England did terribly well and made everybody very proud of them.
"It is a good preparation for the World Cup next year in Qatar which is going to a tricky tournament.
"The high temperatures there will make it difficult for all the European teams."
