Harry Chapman has signed a one-year contract extension at Rovers – but interest remains high in the Rovers winger who is still hoping to make an impact at Ewood Park.

Chapman was part of the squad which returned to pre-season training at Brockhall this week, with a new contract agreed through to 2022.

The 23-year-old starred in a half season loan at Shrewsbury Town, scoring seven times, and the League One side have retained their interest in a permanent move for Chapman, as well as clubs north of the border.

Chapman is hoping to prove himself at Rovers in pre-season, having not made a league start since re-joining the club in January 2019, but there remains the prospect of him moving on this summer should an offer arise.

Had Chapman not signed a new deal, Rovers would have still been entitled to compensation from any club looking to sign him due to being under 24, but only from clubs in England.

Chapman signed from Middlesbrough for an undisclosed fee in January 2019 but has made just 12 substitute appearances in the Championship, five of which came last season.

That followed him starting the Carabao Cup tie against Doncaster and coming off the bench in the round two tie at Newcastle United, but the emergence of Tyrhys Dolan and arrival of Harvey Elliott saw him fall down the pecking order.

He regularly turned out for the Under-23s in a bid to find both form and fitness, but struggled to break into Tony Mowbray’s first-team plans. But starring out on loan in League One has seen Chapman offered a contract extension where he will look to make an impact for the Rovers first-team.

And Chapman says he’s ready to repay the faith show in him by the club and the supporters.

He said: “I’m delighted to sign and give it another go here.

“My loan spell here was successful until my injury and when I came back people had high expectations of me and I didn’t quite live up to them.

“I couldn’t keep my body right but now I’m fully fit I’m raring to go again and prove to people that the club’s decision was a good one to give me a new contract.

“The supporters have been very good to me, I feel the performances when I’ve come on haven’t been good enough and it’s not what they deserve and not what I’m trying to do.

“I’m trying to do my best for myself and the team but sometimes it just doesn’t happen and I feel like the loan (to Shrewsbury) was good, I got some confidence back in myself and belief that I can do it and I’m ready to try again at this level.”
