Ethan Ross has turned down a new deal at Aberdeen and looks set to leave the Scottish Premiership side.

That comes amid links to both Rovers and Sunderland as the 19-year-old opted against staying at Pittodrie.

Rovers have been linked alongside Sunderland who appointed Stuart Harvey as their head of recruitment in the summer, his departure from Ewood Park leaving a hole in the recruitment team.

The 19-year-old made just two league appearances for the Dons, both off the bench, with a further three coming in the Scottish Cup.

That came after a loan spell at Championship side Raith Rovers and despite the offer of an extended deal, he was informed the club he won’t be returning, according to the Press & Journal.

However, with a deal having been turned down, Aberdeen would be due compensation for Ross from any side who look to sign him this summer.

Rovers last summer went north of the border to bring in striker Connor McBride from Celtic, the 20-year-old going on to net 12 times in Premier League 2.

With Brad Lyons, Ben Paton and Stefan Mols having all been let go this summer, Rovers will look to boost the options in their Under-23s ranks, which is where Ross could fit into their plans.
