Rovers will host Leeds United in their first Ewood Park friendly for three years.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side will travel to East Lancashire for what will be Rovers’ penultimate game of pre-season on Wednesday, July 28 (7.30pm).

The sides last met in July 2020, when Leeds ran out 2-1 winners on their way to winning the Championship, but were beaten 2-1 by Rovers in the early part of the 2018/19 season with Danny Graham and Darragh Lenihan both on target.

Leeds finished ninth on their Premier League returning, finishing the season in fine fashion, reeling off four consecutive wins to head into the summer.

While several of their players are currently away on international duty at Euro 2020, including England’s Kalvin Phillips, several of their regulars have enjoyed time off and will be expected to feature, including the likes of Luke Ayling, Stuart Dallas, Raphina, Rodrigo, Jack Harrison and top scorer Patrick Bamford.

Ticket prices will be announced in due course.

It is the fourth friendly announced by Rovers, with games to come against AFC Fylde (July 10), Bradford City (July 24) and Bolton Wanderers (July 31). It is expected that at least one more match will be announced before the Championship season gets under way on the weekend of August 7.

Rovers last hosted Premier League sides in pre-season in 2018, with Liverpool and Everton the visitors, but their matches against top-flight opposition have both come away from home.

They were beaten 6-0 by Liverpool in June 2020, ahead of the project re-start matches, before drawing 1-1 with Leicester City in August 2020.
