Brad Lyons has secured a move to Kilmarnock after being released by Rovers.
Lyons helped Morecambe to promotion via the League Two play-offs during his half-season stay with the Shrimps, but didn’t see his deal extended by Rovers.
Now Lyons has signed a two-year deal with the Scottish Championship side.
The 24-year-old midfielder, who joined Rovers from Coleraine in the 2018/19 season, played 18 times for Morecambe, and has experience of Scottish football following a six-month spell with St Mirren.
He played 17 times under former Coleraine boss Oran Kearney after signing on loan in January 2019.
Lyons leaves Rovers having failed to make a senior appearance, but did feature in a matchday squad this season, and was a consistent performer for the Under-23s in Premier League.
“It feels brilliant to be a Kilmarnock player and I’m so thankful to the manager for bringing me to such a big club. He’s really well known and respected in Northern Ireland and it was a no brainer to come and play under him,” Lyons said.
“I had a great run with Morecambe and to experience Wembley. It was a great experience and one I’ll never forget and hopefully we can experience promotion here too.
“I’m an all-round midfielder. I don’t mind doing the defensive duties and then trying to get forward as much as possible. Hopefully I can help the team and add more goals to my game.”
Kilmarnock were beaten by Dundee in the Premiership play-off final last month and saw a 28-year top-flight stay come to an end.
Manager Tommy Wright, who is keen to guide the side to an immediate return to the Premiership, said of Lyons’ signing: “He’s a strong player with plenty of energy and he’s another who is a good age. He had options but this was where he wanted to be so I’m glad to get Brad in.
“He’s a box-to-box midfielder and I do feel that one area that we can help him with is to get him back to what he did in the Irish League, which was score goals.
“He had a good scoring record with Coleraine, had a decent loan at St Mirren and did well at Morecambe last year.”
