Joe Grayson has announced his departure from Rovers after 15 years with the club.

Grayson, who has spent the second half of the season on loan at Oxford United, has revealed he will be leaving Ewood Park at the end of his current deal which expires this summer.

The 22-year-old, son of former Rovers defender Simon, made two league cup appearances for the club, his debut coming against Lincoln City in August 2018, with his second outing coming against Oldham Athletic 12 months later.

Grayson was a regular within the Under-23s set-up, captaining the side under both Damien Johnson and Billy Barr, but struggled to make the step-up to the first-team, while also being hampered by a long-term injury prior to his return late in 2020.

He was one of a clutch of centre halves coming through the ranks, alongside Scott Wharton, Hayden Carter and Tyler Magloire, and was loaned to Grimsby Town in the closing stages of the 2018/19 season, before his January switch to Oxford in League One where he has made six appearances.

Posting on social media, he said: “After 15 years of being at Blackburn my time has come to an end.

“It’s a sad day as it’s all I’ve known in my time being a footballer. From starting in the Under-8s to making my first-team debut is a proud moment.

“However now is time for a fresh start. Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout my time at the club and all the staff and players I’ve worked with.

“Wishing everyone with Blackburn the very best in the future.”
