Rovers will confirm their retained list for their Academy prospects in the coming days and coach Billy Barr believes the club has plenty of talent coming through the ranks.

The Under-23s’ group has got younger as the season has gone on, with several having moved out on loan, and others having been fazed out of the group.

Long-serving trio Lewis Thompson, Stefan Mols and Ben Paton are set to be among those leaving the club, with decisions to be made on Louie Annesley as well as Tom White, Brad Lyons and Joe Grayson who are all currently out on loan.

Rising star Jake Garrett has already signed professional terms, with Lenny Cirino set to follow suit, while Mike Sheron’s Under-18s have enjoyed a fine end to the season with just one defeat in 11.

On the decision facing the Under-23s, Barr said: “Everything has been done, I’m sure that will come out through the club in coming days.

“As I’ve said previously we’re evolving, we’re getting younger.

“The ones that are staying know how hard it is to play at this level, the younger ones that have come in will be coming back next year and the lads that aren’t we wish them all the best and hope we come across them again and see their careers progress but from a different angle.

“Hopefully they can get something somewhere, and the ones that are with us can build again next year.”

Goalkeepers Jordan Eastham and Antonis Stergiakis have shared the gloves this season, and remain under contract, as does Joe Hilton who has spent time at Fleetwood Town and Ross County this season.

Isaac Whitehall, Joe Nolan, Luke Brennan and Connor McBride are all under contract for next season, while others will be looking to push towards Tony Mowbray’s first-team plans next season, or get a loan move of their own.

Jake Vale has endured a difficult time at Rochdale since his January switch, the attacker failing to make a league start for the club, and Rovers will reintegrate him into the fold in the summer before deciding on his next move.

The likes of Hayden Carter, Tyler Magloire and Harry Chapman will hope to return and be part of the first-team plans, with Barr’s squad next season likely to incorporate those graduating from the Under-18s such as Jared Harlock, Zak Gilsenan and Alex Baker.
