Hayden Carter has thanked Burton Albion for the ‘experience and opportunity’ after his loan spell with the Brewers ended after their final day defeat to Oxford United.

His aim now is to try and force his way into Tony Mowbray’s plans after an impressive loan spell at the Pirelli Stadium.

Defeat at Oxford, where the Brewers uncharacteristically shipped four goals, was just a fifth defeats in 24 games for Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s side who engineered a dramatic turnaround in fortunes after Carter’s arrival.

The 21-year-old defender, signed in January, scored four times and helped the side to 13 wins and nine clean sheets as they climb off the bottom of the table and into the safety of mid-table.

Carter’s impact saw him named runner-up in the club’s player of the season vote, and is aim now is to build on the three senior appearances he's made in Rovers colours.

He said: “I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. It’s nice being in a team that has won most weeks and we’ve defended quite well, which is always the main thing for a defender. The stand-out moment was probably my debut, to win, score and get a clean sheet was a good one. But the whole experience has been brilliant.

“My aim now is to enjoy the break, it’s needed after the tough run of games, but my main aim is to go back to Blackburn as fit as I can and as ready as I can to fight for a place in their side.”
