Tony Mowbray hopes to have Ryan Nyambe back fit for this weekend’s game with Huddersfield Town.

Nyambe missed the midweek defeat at Sheffield Wednesday with a toe injury, which saw Elliott Bennett come in for only his second start of the season.

Rovers are already without Joe Rankin-Costello, another right back option, for the remainder of the season, with a broken metatarsal.

But Nyambe has trained in the lead up to the Terriers game, giving Mowbray hope he will be available.

On the prospect of the Namibia international returning for the visit of Huddersfield, Mowbray said: “I spoke about his swollen toe and how he was struggling to get his boot on.

“But two or three days later that has gone down now and he’s got it strapped up and he came out and trained today, so we’ll see how he is, but there’s a fair chance he’ll be available.”

Meanwhile, Jarrad Branthwaite has been ruled out for the rest of the season with an ankle injury sustained in training.

The Everton loanee, who made 10 appearances, made his first start February in the win over Derby County but then was absent for the trip to Hillsborough.

“It was pretty innocuous, he rolled his ankle in a tackle. It wasn’t a bad one, he just rolled his ankle over the ball and it blew up pretty quickly,” Mowbray said.

“I don’t think he’ll be kicking a ball in the next few weeks, but hopefully he can get himself ready for pre-season.”
